Eye Of The Day: Grey/Blue Glitter

Hey Loves!

Glitter and I have never been friends. Its been very unkind to me in the past and so I've steered pretty clear from it. So much so that I tread carefully around shimmery blushes too. Shimmery eye shadows are okay, and that is pretty much as far as I go with regards to light reflecting make up to avoid looking like a disco ball. However, as my wedding is approaching, I know my fear of glittery make up must come to a swift end. And so, I decided to experiment a little. I like to control where I put the glitter and, to avoid a hot mess, I thought I would rather work with glittery eyeliner as opposed to loose glitter.

And this is what I came up with.

Its a grey and dark blue smokey eye with a glittery lid. I used the glitter eyeliner all over the lid for maximum impact. I have used a white inner corner and brow bone highlight to break up the darkness of the eye shadows. Also, I think the teal eyeliner in the waterline makes a refreshing change from the usual black or nude eyeliners for a smokey eye. What do you think? I would love to know!

Face Of The Day: Gold and Brown Tones

Hey Beauties!

I did a little more experimenting with makeup and this is what I ended up with!

It's a little "cut crease" but not too severe. I blended most of it out. All these pictures are WITH flash so in real life, the makeup was a lot darker than it looks here. In my opinion this is more of an Asian "I'm attending a family wedding" kind of makeup.

Here is a list of the products I used:

Face
  • Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
  • BareMinerals Ready SPF20 Foundation - R330
  • Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - Warm Medium
  • Collection Pressed Powder - Translucent
  • Benefit Hoola Bronzer
  • Mary Lou-Manizer
  • Soap and Glory Cheekmate
  • Nyx Retractable Lip Liner - Nude
  • Nyx Xtreme Lip Cream - Buttery Nude
  • Barry M Loud Mouth Extreme Lip Colour - Tell Tale
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade - Dark Brown

Eyes
  • Maybelline Colour Tattoo - 25K Gold
  • Makeup Revolution Eye Dust - Affluent
  • Sleek iDivine Palette - Au Naturel
  • Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner - Blackest Black
  • Maybelline Great Lash - Blackest Black
  • Red Cherry False Eyelashes - No.47
  • Nyx Jumbo Pencil - Cashmere

That is all my lovelies! Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Face Of The Day: Blue Eyeliner

Hi Loves!

I recently bought a blue eyeliner after seeing that blue was trending quite a bit. I'm not normally a makeup trend follower but this seemed like a fun way to amp up a simple eyeliner look.

Blue is a gorgeous colour, and since it is on the opposite side of the colour wheel to hazel/brown tones, it gives a beautiful contrast and really makes hazel and brown eyes POP!

Because of the vibrancy of this eyeliner, I made the rest of the look pretty simple, with a nude - ish lip.

I didn't use any eyeshadow and instead, just prepped my eyes with a translucent powder and used the Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk to highlight the inner corner. I used another Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Cashmere to line my waterline and the Hoola Bronzer to define the crease. I finished the eyes off with plenty of mascara!

Keeping the rest of the face super simple, I just used the Hoola Bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks, above my temples and on my jaw line to add a sunkissed glow. I then added the smallest amount of the Mary Lou-Manizer highlighter on the highest points of my cheeks. And Voila! All done!

Let me know what you think of this look. Would you try it out?

Thanks for stopping by!

Liebster Award

Hello everybody!

I was nominated for the Liebster Award by two fellow bloggers over at Chai and Chapsticks and A Muslimah's Little Blog. Thank you Ladies!

"Liebster" is a German word meaning "sweetheart", "darling" or "beloved". It means "boyfriend" too haha but let's not go there. This award is a nice little gesture whereby bloggers nominate other bloggers in the blogger realm (mouthful!) to welcome them and give them some recognition.

The official Liebster Award rules differ from the ones going around today and I've seen a few sets of rules floating about. Yes, I've been a good girl and done my research! I'm going to stick to the ones that my girls sent me.

Rules:
  • Post the award on your blog.
  • Thank the blogger who awarded you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers.
  • Answer the 11 questions that were asked by the blogger who presented you with the award.
  • Ask 11 questions from those you nominate.

Right, so let's get started!

11 Random Facts about me
  1. I had grey eyes when I was born and now they are brown.
  2. I have two cats - Tom and Jerry. And yes, I know Jerry was a mouse in the cartoons!
  3. I don't have a favourite colour.
  4. I am currently obsessed with Lipsticks.
  5. I am always up early in the morning, even if I have had little to no sleep. I just feel anxious that I might miss out on something if I'm asleep! Crazy girl.
  6. I am engaged.
  7. I am the middle child.
  8. I speak 5 languages. A few more fluently than others!
  9. I obsess over things being neat and tidy and visually appealing.
  10. My hearing and sense of smell are very strong.
  11. I love animals.
That was tough!

Now on to the Questions by Chai and Chapsticks.

  6. Favourite TV show(s)? I'm not a TV person but I like talent shows or reality tv shows. I recently watched Orange is the New Black, which was really good.
  7. Would you rather have more followers that are in active or less followers that are more active? Less and active.
  8. High end or high street? Mix.
  9. How old were you when you first played with make up? 5 years old I guess.

Yay or Nay: Barry M Loud Mouth Extreme Lip Colour Review

Hello everybody!

I'm here with another Yay or Nay post and this time I will be reviewing the Barry M Loud Mouth Extreme Lip Colour.

Here is what Barry M has to say about this product:

"Extreme liquid lip colour for the perfect power pout. The high pigment provides an intense colour coverage to make the most of your mouth! In 7 hot shades including Diva, Tease, Gossip, Show Off, Chatterbox, Screamer and Tell-Tale, get Loud Mouth and get noticed this summer."

So these little buggers come in lipstick sized squeezy tubes.
Left to Right: Tell-Tale, Chatterbox, Screamer, Tease, Show Off, Diva, Gossip (laying)
I thought about reviewing this product as a whole and just giving my general thoughts on them accompanied by my usual swatches. However, when I actually came to test them out, I realised that my thoughts varied with the shades.

All shades have a sweet scent and taste (no they aren't edible I'm sure but as with all lip products, one some how manages to get a taste!)

I found it easier to apply some of these with either my fingers or a small brush as the applicator is plastic which causes streaking and doesn't give a precise application. They all have a slightly sticky feel of a gloss and, as promised, are highly pigmented.

Here are a swatches of all 7 shades.

(For the purposes of this review, the swatch pictures have not been edited and so are a true representation of the colours of the products to the best of my ability.)
TEASE: A true red. Only requires one swipe to get full coverage. This was one of my favourite shades and was super easy to apply from the tube applicator.

SHOW OFF: A warm baby pink. I had trouble applying this because of the applicator. It was a lot easier with my fingers or with a brush for precise application. Pretty shade for day wear or paired with a smokey eye.

SCREAMER: A light coral. I applied this little at a time with a brush. This shade is perfect if you have a tan.

CHATTERBOX: A cool baby pink. This is a very similar shade to Show Off as you can see from the swatches. It is slightly blue based which is excellent if you want the illusion of whiter teeth! I don't know if it was just my tube but when I squeezed it to dispense the product, I managed to get a blob of clear liquid first, followed by the actual product! Did it split?! No idea. Glad I applied this on the back of my hand first!

TELL-TALE: A super light nude/pink. This shade is almost white! I had the same splitting problem with this colour. Worn on its own, it didn't suit my olive skin tone at all. In fact, if anything, it made me look washed out and zombie like. Its not a complete miss though as it makes a great base, dabbed on to your lips, to layer on another lip colour if you want to lighten the shade.

GOSSIP: A bright pink. Another one of my favourite shades. Absolutely gorgeous to apply and has a beautiful blue base for whiter teeth! It is very pigmented so it is best applied with a brush for contouring the mouth.

DIVA: A cherry red. Hello hollywood! An absolutely stunning shade and my favourite out of all 7. Blue based again and best applied with a brush. This shade and a slick of mascara and you'll instantly look more put together.

Verdict: This was a tricky one. I would say Yay for the darker shades and a Nay for the lighter ones. I feel, however, that the lighter ones can be worn as a lipgloss (Show Off, Screamer, Chatterbox) on top of another lip colour to switch things up a little bit with the exception of Tell-Tale. This, to me, is definitely more of a base shade as opposed to a lip colour. They all smell gorgeous and aren't for those who steer away from scented cosmetics. I, for one, am all about good smelling products. Obviously, the wear time of these bad boys depends on what you're up to during the day. Kisses are a no-no, as with most glosses. Eating and drinking will require a repeated application. I wore these one by one for a whole day and by the end of the day, my lips, though slightly sticky, were super moisturised with a slight stain.

So those are my thoughts lovelies! Have you tried any of these? What are your favourite shades? I would love to know in the comments below.

Until next time!

Eye of the Day: Purple, Pink and Gold Tones

Hey Loves!

As a lot of you might already know, I'm getting married in December and so my life is currently all things wedding, makeup being one of them. I thought I would just experiment on myself and so this is the Eye look I came up with. I wanted to pay attention to my eyes so I am not wearing any other makeup apart from something on my lips just to add dimension to my face.

I used a Pink and a Purple shadow through the crease of my eye and on the lower lash line. I also used a Matte Black shadow on the outer V of my eye. I used a wet Gold shadow for my eyelid and highlighted my inner corner and waterline with a Nyx Jumbo Pencil. Because my eyelid is shimmery, I used a matte white shadow for my brow bone highlight. I then lined my eyes and applied false lashes.

Products used:
  • MUA Glamour Nights Palette
  • NYX Jumbo Pencil - Milk
  • Maybelline Falsies Flared Mascara - Black
  • Red Cherry False Lashes - No 48
  • Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner
  • Mac Eyebrow Pencil - Spiked
  • NYX Xtreme Lip Cream - Pinky Nude

I am not sure who is doing my makeup and what I want etc so I thought a little experimenting would lead me in to the right direction. I realised though, that to the naked eye, this makeup seems like a lot, but once the flash was on, it washed the makeup out. Does that mean I need my makeup to be a lot heavier to the naked eye for it to show up on camera? What are the chances I'll still look like myself on the day with such a heavy 'face' on? Because this makeup, on camera, seemed border-line party makeup.

Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated.

Much Love,

Rosette Trio: A Hair Tutorial

Hello Beautiful!

I posted a picture on Instagram and Facebook a while ago of this hairstyle and got a lot of requests for a hair tutorial. So here it is!

This hairstyle works on all hair lengths and it's super easy. If you have a fringe (bangs) you can opt to leave the hair out to frame your face. Mine are getting pretty long so I just incorporated them in the hairstyle.

Let's get started!

1. Grab three separate sections from your crown and tie them into small ponytails. I chose to make the middle section slightly thicker than the surrounding two sections.

2. Begin braiding each section in a regular three strand braid.

3. You should end up with three small braids. Tie them off using small elastic bands.

4. Grab one braid and begin pulling a loop at a time all the way up the braid to fan it out. Do this on one side of the braid. These loops form the petals of the flower.

5. You should end up with three fanned braids which look significantly thicker than your original three braids. Note how I have only fanned ONE side of each braid. It doesn't matter which side you fan out.

6. Hold the base of the braid and begin twisting the braid around on itself. Twist it in such a way that the fanned side of the braid remains on the OUTSIDE of the twist.

7. Pin the twist in place to give it the flower shape. If you feel you need to pull on the loops to give them more of a petal-like shape then now would be the time to play around with the Rosette.

8. Repeat the same with the other two braids.

9. I added hair spinners to the middle of my Rosettes for some eye-catching detail. This also hides any pins that may be showing through. You can use real flowers if you like!

Hair Spinners

I left my hair natural for the rest of the look but you can choose to curl the loose hair to give it some oomph!

That's all folks! I hope you found this tutorial helpful. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Peace and Love,

Super Easy Kitten Eye - An Eyeliner Tutorial

Hello Gorgeous!

I have been getting so many requests to do a step by step eyeliner tutorial. So here I am, at your service!

The thing with any eyeliner look is that its result is utterly dependent on your eye shape. That's not to say you can't do a certain kind of eyeliner, but we're talking about "working" with what you've got and enhancing it.

Personally, it took me years and years of practice to learn how to do eyeliner properly (or at least I hope I do it properly!). I went through tons of formulations and lots of different types of eyeliner looks to find the one that works for me and now this is pretty much what I stick to.

I have small-ish, quite round eyes and so my aim is to make them look larger and more almond shaped.

This tutorial is for a day time eyeliner, where the flick is smaller and less prominent- hence the name KITTEN eye. In my opinion, the CAT eye is more of an evening/night time look as the flick is further elongated.

I will be using Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner in Black. This has a cream/gel formulation and I find that this is easier to work with because it isn't completely liquid and doesn't set straight away. This is beneficial because you have enough time to play around with it before it sets but it isn't watery and doesn't feather everywhere if you're a little shaky.

Enough talking, let's get started!

1. Create a fairly thin/medium line across the top lash line. I have kept the thickness of the line even all the way across the lid. It helps if you rest your elbow on a flat surface at a comfortable level and apply the liner looking down in to a mirror. That way you're hand in less prone to shaking.

2. I normally don't do this, but for beginners, it is a great idea to grab a piece of tape and stick it to the back of your hand a few times to remove some of the adhesive and use it as a stencil for your flick.

3. Follow your bottom lash line and stick the tape in line with where you want your flick to be. Following the natural contour of your bottom lash line allows the flick to be mapped out according to your eye shape and thus creates a more natural look.

4. Use the side of the tape to draw your flick. Rest the head of the brush/pen against the tape and paint away! You can have the flick go up as high as you want towards the tail of your brow. I kept mine fairly small as this is a day time Kitten eye look.

5. Join the tail of your flick with a straight line to the middle of your eyelid.

6. Fill in the sparse area once you are happy with the shape.

7. Remove the tape to reveal a perfectly aligned Kitten eye flick!

8. Mimic a smaller flick on the inner corner to elongate your eye. Avoid this step if you have close set eyes.

9. Finish off with lashings of mascara and you're good to go!

I hope this tutorial was helpful to those of you who have trouble applying eyeliner. Thank you for stopping by! Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Keep smiling!
